Anna and Emmy are two of Will's favorite people - he loves to see them at church, or anywhere else we get together with their family. On New Year's Eve day, we met them at a new park, and had a little picnic after some play time. The kids all tried out their new bikes - the girls were much more sucessful than Will, I ended up carrying his most of the time. The bigger parks here in Dubai charge a small entrance fee of 3-5 dirhams, about 75 cents to a $1.50, we think to keep out the large groups of male laborers. It's rather racist, but what do you do? Will found one of our entrance tickets, and is carefully studying all the fun things the park offers to visitors so he is ready for our next visit.
Our picnic was from the Anderson's favorite Lebanese bakery and it was pretty yummy - Lebanese bread with melted cheese. The guys also found a French bakery so we had some lovely pastry for dessert too.
For our evening celebrations, Nate and I watched a movie, then decided to venture out and see the fireworks from the Burj Khalifa - last year we caught several fireworks displays on local tv, and thought we should see it in real life this year. We are really getting into the Arab lifestyle, and we woke Will up and got in the car to find a good place to watch.
We were not alone in our idea, however we were some of the paler viewers to choose this type of view. As we got closer, the sides of the freeway got more and more full of cars, then lane by lane turned into a parking lot. We just joined the throngs, put the car in park and got out with our camera and toddler to watch the show. It was pretty cool - you can't really see the building, but the fireworks shoot off the building from top to bottom! There is also a show closer to the ground, and we could see a little of that too from our roadside vantage point. We passed one pileup on the way home, but had no major mishaps, and got back home to bed just as most of you were getting up to start your New Year's Eve.
So, from this side of the world, Happy New Year!

Thanks for a great afternoon, it was really fun. Hope your deliveries went smoothly, we stayed and chilled at the park. It was wonderful. We didn't have such an exciting evening though. Barely lifted my eyes to the Global Village fireworks right out the back yard. Good job :)
