We are trying to create some of our own traditions here in Dubai, or at least take advantage of some of the out of the ordinary opportunities that are afforded us. After we finished our last minute shopping on Christmas Eve, we stopped at the Rhas al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary to see the flamingos. We got out our Santa hats hoping for a picture opportunity before the day was done, but Will thought he would like to wear his all day, so he did and it was pretty cute.
Christmas jammies were a must, and luckily I scored the last pair that would fit Will a few days before Christmas. Nate read The Night Before Christmas, and Luke 2 with Will before bed, then we got to work...
Calista got a couple of presents for Will, and as they were under the tree before the big day, he couldn't wait to open them, but it turned out to be a good thing - he got to enjoy them for a few days before the big day, and he perfected his opening skills.
His favorite gifts were a giant stuffed elephant, affectionately called the Mommy Elephant (and not because I feel like an elephant now...), his little basketball hoop and Will-sized table and chair, his mini trampoline and his choo choo - one day I will post the video with him making the "chugachug a choochoo" sound effects all around the track.
We took him to the park to try out his new bicycle - he will get to learn how to do pedals and steering, and then planned to go to the beach afterwards.
But the fountains were on at the park, and since he was dressed for water play, we let him explore, and it didn't take him long to break the barrier and go right in to the fountains. It was a blast to watch him splash and run and laugh hilariously when he got it in the face.

All in all, it was a great day - we missed our families, and the yummy food we heard about, but we were still recovering from a couple of big meals from the days before so our lunch of crackers and cheese, and McDonald's dinner sufficed. Here's to a different kind of Christmas - hope everyone's was as enjoyable!

Isn't it fun to create new traditions? If only for a little while. :) so glad you had a great Xmas. I can't believe how tall will looks! keep the posts coming!
