We are not pet people. Its not that we don't like animals, its just that we don't like them enough to clean up after them. So imagine our chagrin when we have been adopted multiple times by the birds in the neighborhood. Last summer it was a pair of doves who built a nest on our back patio and guarded their eggs zealously to the point of diving at anyone who got too close. It was pretty funny when I forgot to tell the bug guy about it though - the mama bird gave him a serious warning.
One day, though, they were just gone. The nest remained, but it was empty and there was no sign of little baby doves. We got lucky though, shortly afterwards another pair built a nest on our front porch. And spring has arrived here because we have new pets. As we answered our front door the last few times, we both noticed chunks of grass and twigs all around it. I just made a mental note to get the broom and clean it up, but Nate was more astute. He realized immediately it was garage sale leavings from a new pair of pet birds creating their summer home. He searched all around for a nest, but the usual spots were empty. During his search, he noticed that several branches from our mesquite tree had been stripped of all their leaves. After a bit more pondering, he turned around to come back in the house and had a thought. On our front door, we have a hanging thing filled with fake flowers - check out the nest that had been built behind it. Crazy birds.

wow...that's amazing. i'm glad we don't have trees to worry about but sad at the same time (must garden up our deck someday).
no birds nesting here...even they know the LA real estate market is no good :).
and as for not liking animals enough to clean up after them, just wait until you see what you're willing to clean up for your boy. i was going to share a story here but changed my mind...too graphic for your sweet blog :).
oh come on kate - who doesn't love a disgusting "look how much we love our kids" story? Now my curiosity is piqued . . .
ah, to even HAVE spring to have birds etc around ... we just got dumped on with snow. go figure. :)
(and kate, let's hear it!! :))
We had some birds build a nest in our dryer vent a couple years ago. They were so dang persistent!
