Last "winter" we had quite a few rainy days, but it had been totally dry here until Monday. We even got some thunder and lightning while we were eating breakfast. It proceeded to rain off and on most of the day, and the kids in my classes begged to go have class outside in the rain - it's funny how much like little kids they get when it rains here. It rained again that night, and since Finley had a bad dream and was sleeping with me, I got to be sort of awake to hear a lot more thunder and lighting - it was sweet. Tuesday is the day that we all go to school, and so everyone was loaded down with backpacks and lunch bags, diaper bags and rain jackets, and we got a nasty surprise when we got down to the parking garage. After all the rain on Monday, and Monday night, it was totally flooded. Nate waded over to the car and pulled it as close to the door as he could, and ferried the kids to their seats, then picked me up on the ground level so he was the only one who had to suffer wet feet. Then we got to school and found this...
Parking lots were flooded, the artificial soccer pitch, even the track was a little flooded. And the slightly sunken courtyard at the front entrance to the school was a lake. Finley was quite distraught by the water, and freaked out every time I came close to stepping in any water. We finally made it into the school and heard more good news - a pipe had burst overnight and a whole line of classrooms was flooded, I guess we missed the Niagara Falls as the water cascaded down one of the staircases.
Other good news - the flood in the basement has forced the crying cat from our parking garage to find a new home!
