The Ship of the Desert - or an Ode to Camels

Back in the day, camels were called the ships of the desert because of their amazing ability to deal with the limited water supply, and life sucking heat. Now they are used more as a tourist attraction, and there is even a camel racing track here in Dubai. At one of the beaches we have visited, a guy offers camel rides.
My personal favorite though, was when we took a little road trip to the city of Al Ain, and saw wild camels out on the dunes. I knew there would be camels here, I just didn't realize there were still wild ones just roaming around. It was pretty awesome - sometimes they were alone, sometimes there were a few of them. Just as we decided we needed to try and get a picture, we came upon a little camel farm - for lack of a better description. A few guys were living there - apparently with no electricity or running water, and lots of cars had stopped to see all their camels. One of the proprieters even brought us a camel over to pet. Just one more experience we couldn't have anywhere else!
