A weekend with Danny the Dog

Another ridiculously long post - and it was just 1 weekend!  Will has been anxiously awaiting his turn to bring Danny the Dog home from his class, and this weekend was finally all his.  It was a toss up between he and Finley - which of them loved the dog more.  So our homework was to take him on some adventures and then add to his little scrapbook/journal.  Will had a birthday party after school on Thursday, then he wanted to "get on an airplane and take Danny to Africa and Yew Nork City".  Grandma and Grandpa Moffett even got to meet Danny.  I'm sure it was the highlight of their day.
Well, Friday was dedicated to church, but Danny got to play with the kids in the morning, and wait in the car for us while we were at church - thankfully no one stole him out of the car.  Will was nervous.  Then on Saturday morning, Daddy took the kids out for a bike ride and to the park to try to stage some "safari pictures".
Finley loved pushing him in her little car.
And Danny loved the playground - especially the slide.

They did a little tree climbing, like monkeys.
I think this is the cutest picture...
Then it was to the "savannah"...

I printed off some of our Sri Lanka safari pics of elephants, monkeys (in a tree), and water buffalo, then googled a thirsty lion, some zebras and a couple of giraffes for the travel journal.  When Will looked at it, he couldn't figure out why I put pictures of animals in there since we didn't actually go to Africa.  This is where what the teacher wants, and what the kid understands about followthrough  doesn't bridge the divide…  Anyhow, Danny helped clean up the house after friends came for dinner after church,
and went to Old Dubai and took an abra ride across the creek.

He shopped in the souk, and helped Nate pick out some spices.

Sampled some juice,

and rode on Daddy's shoulders.
He was also braver than Finley, and tried the warm coconut milk - it was kind of gross, and not what we needed after a long walk in the heat. But it looked cool.

Then he got to ride on Will's shoulders, and we finally had enough material for our weekend adventure.    It was kind of fun to have a good excuse to go out and do something as a family that had been on our list for awhile, and Will was so cute all weekend about the dog - he was very protective of it when it had to stay in the car, and he loved having one more buddy to sleep with him.

i wish that our school did a "danny the dog" -- instead they send home "timmy the turtle" -- a real turtle. about puts me over the edge, and i feel horrible for him in his little travel cage, so he has to swim in the bathtub all weekend. ugh. i was not made for real live pets in the house. give me a stuffed danny any day!

ps-- the pics are awesome. love seeing your little family!!
