Saturday Morning at the Beach

Nate was pretty excited to have his birthday on a Thursday this year - last year he had to go to Back to School Night on his birthday.  So we have been celebrating all weekend - dinner at California Pizza Kitchen with the kids on Thursday night, crazy good birthday cake on Friday,

 

and then a trip to the beach Saturday morning to try out our new sea kayaks.  Nate found them on Dubizzle (Dubai's version of Craigslist) for a pretty good deal (two for the price of one, seats and lifejackets included).  We found some friends who were willing to watch the kids for us for a bit in exchange for a spin on the kayaks, so we got to go out together.  I have only done it once before, so it will take some practice, but it was really fun - and I am excited to get the ab and arm workout as a side benefit...  I hope I am not useless tomorrow. 

 

Unfortunately, you can't really see the scale of the yacht behind us, but apparently it is Sheikh Mohammed's (the Sheikh of Dubai) small yacht.  It is literally the size of a small hotel. 

Once we get good enough, and get life jackets for the kids, we want to take them down to the mangroves in Abu Dhabi.  Here's to life on the gulf!
