The morning started off pretty well. We found a cool alarm clock for Will in Austria - it has a rocket ship outline that lights up as a night light, and so we tell him when it goes off that the rocket ship is taking off and it's time to get up. He wanted toast with chocolate butter for breakfast on his first day, and I should have gotten out the bib, but his face was already a mess by the time I got downstairs with Finley. Things were still going okay - his ten minutes to eat timer had just gone off, so we were trying to get him on his way to brush teeth when Calista came in. For some reason, Will feels he has to hide from her when she comes in the morning, and he chose this morning to hide in his shirt. Of course I had only labeled one of his new shirts, so we had to race upstairs, put stain spray on the chocolate shirt, label another one, put it on, brush teeth, put on socks and shoes, comfort Finley as we all left her behind and therefore we got stuck in the hot mess that is morning school traffic and spent 15 minutes trying to get the last 250 meters to school and a parking spot.
But he left me behind with barely a glance as he ventured fearlessly into Ms. Sima's class; made it home on the bus, and finally shared a little about his day when we figured out the questions to ask. Maybe I'll try tomorrow for another picture...
